A Cape Coral, Florida, resident wearing Batman-themed pajamas detained an alleged burglar in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting police to credit the civilian for the arrest. According to the Cape Coral Police Department, home-security cameras alerted Kyle Myvett to a man breaking into his vehicle shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 28. Still in his sleepwear, Myvett confronted the intruder, later identified as 20-year-old Justin Schimpl, and restrained him in a neighbour’s garage until officers arrived. Investigators say Schimpl had already rifled through multiple vehicles and removed two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at roughly $300 each, cash, a woman’s wristlet and more than $500 in gift cards. He faces one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling, two counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and two counts of petit theft under $750. Police added that Schimpl, who claimed but could not identify an accomplice, is known from prior investigations. No additional suspects were located.
