U.S. Customs and Border Protection said its explosives-detection dog K9 Freddie is back on active duty after recovering from an assault at Washington Dulles International Airport in June 2025. CBP added that the Egyptian national who attacked the canine has pleaded guilty. Details of the charges and any sentencing were not disclosed. The update was released as the agency marked National Dog Day, using the occasion to highlight the more than 1,500 CBP dogs that support drug, currency and weapons interdiction at U.S. ports of entry.
