Chicago recorded a spate of violent incidents between Thursday night and early Saturday that left at least three people dead and seven others wounded, according to the Chicago Police Department. The most lethal episode unfolded late Thursday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, where two separate shootings killed three people and injured two more. One of the victims was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as 27-year-old Tia Bell. Police said the assailants in both attacks fled, and no arrests have been announced. Additional gun violence was reported Friday night. Two men, ages 45 and 48, were shot outside Franklin Food and Liquor on the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious and fair condition, respectively. Hours earlier, a man was wounded on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the South Loop, and a woman suffered critical injuries in a separate Northwest Side shooting. Non-fatal violence also included a stabbing outside the 69th Street Red Line station just before 6 p.m. Friday. Police said a 17-year-old girl stabbed a 20-year-old woman twice in the torso; the victim remains in critical condition, and the juvenile faces a felony aggravated-battery charge. Detectives are investigating each case. The police department has urged anyone with information to come forward as the city confronts another weekend marked by gun and knife violence.
