Colorado authorities have launched an extensive manhunt for a man accused of stabbing a seasonal Colorado Parks and Wildlife ranger at Staunton State Park, southwest of Denver, around midday on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the ranger was stabbed in the torso in what investigators believe was a targeted attack. The victim was airlifted to a Denver-area hospital; officials have not released the ranger’s condition or a possible motive. Deputies, state troopers, local police departments and a regional SWAT team combed the nearly 4,000-acre park by ground and air after the suspect fled on foot. He is described as a white male in his early 30s, roughly 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with brown hair and no facial hair, last seen wearing a plain gray shirt and blue jeans. The sheriff’s office warned the public that the man should be considered dangerous and urged anyone who spots him to call 911. Staunton State Park was closed for the remainder of Tuesday while officers established a perimeter and searched the rugged terrain. The park reopened on Wednesday, although the suspect remains at large. Authorities have asked visitors to remain vigilant as the investigation and search continue.
