Copper Wire Theft Causes Major Disruptions, $70,000 in Damages, and $100k Burglary in Bellevue

Copper wire theft has caused significant disruptions and financial losses across the United States. In downtown Los Angeles, a neighborhood was plunged into darkness due to such thefts, with damages estimated to be over $70,000. Investigators revealed that the thefts occurred between April and June and are part of a larger theft ring impacting stores along the East Coast, including Florida. Nationwide, the theft of copper and other valuable materials from streetlights, statues, and gravesites has cost millions to repair. In Las Vegas alone, thieves have stolen 1 million feet of electrical wiring from public properties, and approximately 7 miles of copper wire has been stolen, costing taxpayers millions of dollars in repairs. In Bellevue, a 43-year-old man is facing numerous charges after allegedly using a stolen garage key door in a burglary involving over $100k.
