
Feds Indict Six in $34 Million South Florida COVID Loan Fraud; DOJ Labels Scheme Readily Preventable
Federal authorities have dismantled a South Florida fraud ring that collected $34 million in U.S. pandemic relief loans. The FBI in Miami investigated the scheme, leading to the indictment of six individuals involved in the COVID relief fraud. Additionally, three people have been sentenced for pandemic-related unemployment fraud and identity theft. Separately, five men pleaded guilty to a global digital asset investment scam conspiracy that resulted in the theft of more than $36.9 million from victims. In Las Vegas, a couple faces dozens of felony charges for orchestrating a fraud scheme that police say amassed close to $60 million. The Department of Justice characterized the COVID fraud as readily preventable.
