A series of criminal cases involving theft and fraud have emerged in Florida, with several individuals facing felony charges. A woman in St. Petersburg has been charged with stealing over $200,000 from a disabled elderly woman over a four-year period. In another case, a Florida man has been arrested for swindling ten people and stealing more than $100,000 for personal use. Additionally, a former deputy clerk from Erie County has been sentenced for stealing over $320,000 from his ex-employer, receiving a prison term of 1 1/3 to 4 years. A Naples woman has also been sentenced to ten years in prison for exploiting an elderly couple. Furthermore, former Florida state Representative Carolina Amesty has been charged with COVID-19 relief fraud, facing two counts of theft of government property, each carrying a maximum penalty of ten years in federal prison. The charges were announced by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. Amesty is the second GOP legislator in Florida to face such allegations, following Joe Harding, who received a four-month prison sentence for similar offenses. Lastly, a former councilwoman is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly forging nomination paperwork and illegally voting in the November 2024 election.

I realized this morning that Amesty is actually the *second* GOP legislator in Florida accused of COVID relief fraud. The other, Joe Harding, was one of the original sponsors of "Parental Rights"/"Don't Say Gay" and got 4 months in prison. Both reps talked a lot about values. https://t.co/VvlK6ZfzkI
