Kyra Worthy, the former executive director of the San Francisco nonprofit SF SAFE, has been arrested and charged with 34 felony counts related to the misuse of over $700,000 in public funds. The charges include misappropriation of public money, wage theft, and fraud. Worthy allegedly spent the funds on lavish parties, events, travel, luxury gift boxes, and a 'Candy Explosion' party. The nonprofit, which partnered with the San Francisco Police Department for community outreach and crime prevention, was left with no assets and ceased operations in January 2024 following a city audit that revealed significant financial mismanagement.

“Ms. Worthy’s theft and mismanagement resulted in the 48-year-old charity having no assets and ceasing operations in January of 2024,” prosecutors said in a statement. https://t.co/1bG1ge7bA0
