U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers removed a man who identified himself as being from Western Sahara from a courtroom at the Manhattan immigration court on 26 Aug. after he allegedly resisted arrest, according to video footage of the incident. The individual was escorted down the courthouse steps by several agents while shouting could be heard in the background as officers pushed back onlookers and members of the media. No injuries were reported and ICE did not immediately release the detainee’s name or the charges he faces. The man was transferred to a detention facility pending further immigration proceedings, ICE officers at the scene said. The agency has not commented on whether additional charges related to resisting arrest will be pursued.
