An administrative trial judge recommended on Tuesday that the disciplinary case against NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey be dismissed. The NYPD's oversight panel had determined last year that Maddrey abused his authority in November 2021 by voiding the arrest of a retired colleague who had allegedly menaced three young boys with a gun. The judge argued that the Civilian Complaint Review Board lacked jurisdiction in the case. The final decision now rests with NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban.
