An Arizona judge on 25 July sentenced Lori Vallow Daybell to two consecutive life terms for conspiring to murder her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and for orchestrating the attempted murder of her niece’s former husband, Brandon Boudreaux. Judge Justin Beresky, handing down the punishment in a Phoenix courtroom, said the crimes showed a "blatant disregard for humanity" and told the defendant she "should never be released from prison." Daybell, who represented herself, will be eligible for parole after 25 years, although the judge ordered the sentences to run consecutively. A jury earlier this year found Daybell guilty of directing her late brother, Alexander Cox, to fatally shoot Charles Vallow in July 2019 and to open fire on Boudreaux in a failed drive-by shooting three months later. Prosecutors argued that Daybell’s apocalyptic religious beliefs and financial motives drove the plots, which were carried out in the months before a string of additional killings linked to the couple. The Arizona terms will follow the multiple life sentences Daybell is already serving in Idaho for murdering her two youngest children, Joshua “J.J.” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, and for conspiring in the 2019 death of Tammy Daybell, the first wife of her current husband, Chad Daybell, who is now on death row. Taken together, the sentences make it virtually certain that the 50-year-old will remain in prison for the rest of her life.
