First Lady Melania Trump called for “pre-emptive intervention” and broader use of behavioral threat assessments following Wednesday’s mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis. In a statement posted online, she said early identification of warning signs—ranging from violent threats on social media to other concerning behaviors—could help prevent future attacks. “Being aware of these warning signs and acting quickly can save lives and make American communities safer,” she wrote, adding that her “heart was shattered” for the victims’ families. Minneapolis police said the gunman, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, opened fire through stained-glass windows as children attended morning Mass, killing two pupils aged eight and ten and injuring seventeen others, including three parishioners in their 80s. Westman, armed with a rifle, shotgun and pistol, died by suicide as officers arrived. Investigators are reviewing a video manifesto posted online to determine a motive.
