A new report titled 'The Fraud of Plastic Recycling' accuses the plastics industry of misleading the public about the effectiveness of recycling. In the U.S., approximately 48 million tons of plastic waste are generated annually, with only 5 to 6 percent being recycled, according to the Department of Energy. The remainder of this waste ends up in landfills or is incinerated.
