Devon Hogan Flanagan, a Special Assistant Attorney General in Rhode Island, was arrested on August 14 at a Newport restaurant for trespassing, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. Bodycam footage released by local police shows Flanagan in a visibly intoxicated state repeatedly asserting her position as an assistant attorney general, reportedly saying "I'm an AG" more than 20 times during the incident. She also threatened officers by saying, "You're gonna regret this," and attempted to instruct them to turn off their body cameras, which the officers refused. The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office confirmed the arrest and stated it is conducting a review of the incident. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced that Flanagan will be suspended without pay following the arrest, citing embarrassment caused by her actions. Flanagan previously worked in the Suffolk District Attorney's Office. The arrest has drawn public attention due to the behavior captured on video and the use of her official title during the confrontation with law enforcement.
