Rochester resident Shiloh Marie Hendrix has been charged with three misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly directing a racial slur at an eight-year-old Black child during an April 28 confrontation at Roy Sutherland Playground, according to filings in Olmsted County Court released on 26 August. A criminal complaint says the child, who is autistic, removed an applesauce pouch from Hendrix’s diaper bag, prompting Hendrix to chase the boy and use the slur, drawing concern from bystanders and other children. A video of the outburst circulated widely on TikTok, intensifying calls from civil-rights groups for legal action. The episode sparked local demonstrations and a Rochester NAACP town hall demanding accountability. In the aftermath, Hendrix set up a GiveSendGo campaign that has raised more than $300,000, citing safety concerns after her personal information was posted online. Hendrix is expected to make an initial court appearance in the coming weeks. Disorderly-conduct convictions in Minnesota can carry up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine per count.
