Romanian mob coming for your debit cards using ATM-style skimmers at self-checkouts: authorities say https://t.co/PcGi1qAa7h

Authorities have issued a warning about a sophisticated scam operation involving Romanian mobsters who are targeting debit card users in Britain and the United States. The scam involves the use of ATM-style skimmers installed at self-checkouts in supermarkets, such as Sainsbury's in Britain, to steal debit card information. One particular incident in Britain resulted in a victim losing £150. In the U.S., a Romanian gang was caught after wiping out Californians' bank accounts through skimming at cash registers. One of the perpetrators, identified as one of 'Romania's most wanted,' could face up to 30 years in prison. Law enforcement agencies have raised a red alert, emphasizing the lengths to which these criminals will go to avoid capture, including crossing borders illegally and removing ankle monitors if detained.
