Shrewsbury Police Lock Down Neighborhood in Hunt for Armed Suspect

Police in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, ordered residents around Jordan Pond, Edgewater Avenue and Plainfield Avenue to shelter in place on Thursday morning while officers searched for a suspect described as armed and dangerous. The manhunt drew a heavy multi-agency response, including Special Weapons and Tactics teams, and Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early was on scene, according to local media reports. Shrewsbury Public Schools said Coolidge School, located near the search perimeter, was secured as a precaution; no students or staff were involved in the incident and classes continued inside the building. Other schools in the district were unaffected. Shortly before noon, television footage showed an individual being taken into custody near Edgewater Avenue, though police have not confirmed whether that person is the suspect who prompted the search. Authorities have not released details on the alleged offense or any injuries. The shelter-in-place order remained in effect while investigators worked to verify the detainee’s identity and assess whether additional threats remained.
