This operation is part of a broader European police initiative that has targeted a criminal network impersonating police and bank employees to defraud elderly individuals across multiple countries, resulting in significant financial losses estimated in the millions of euros. Additionally, Russian Security Services reported the closure of three scam call centers in Moscow, which had collectively defrauded victims from over 20 countries, amassing tens of millions of dollars. The scam involved deceiving victims through a fake online dashboard that displayed fabricated account statements and false profits.
