
In a recent surge of cybercrime, the U.S. has witnessed an alarming increase in cryptocurrency fraud and phishing scams. February alone saw Twitter phishers siphoning over $46 million from 57,000 victims. The FBI reported that Americans lost approximately $1.3 billion in 2023 due to scams impersonating government or tech support entities. Additionally, the first two months of 2024 have been marked by phishing attacks that affected over 97,000 users, leading to $104 million in losses, as reported by Scam Sniffer. Fairfax County residents have also been significantly impacted, with losses exceeding $160,000. A notable detail from these scams is that Ethereum Mainnet accounts were particularly targeted, constituting 78% of the total theft.
