The U.S. Justice Department has agreed to a $138.7 million settlement with over 100 victims of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, addressing 139 tort claims. This settlement, which includes an apology from the DOJ, addresses claims that the FBI grossly mishandled sexual assault allegations against Nassar in 2015 and 2016. Nassar, who is currently serving time in prison for sexually abusing athletes under his care, was the subject of numerous complaints that were not adequately investigated by the FBI, allowing him to continue his crimes. The settlement aims to compensate the victims for the FBI's failures during the investigation.
