Two police officers were shot and killed and a sheriff’s deputy was wounded when they responded to a domestic-disturbance call in Tremonton, Utah, on Sunday night. A police dog accompanying the deputy was also hit. All wounded are in fair condition, authorities said Monday. Brigham City Police Detective Crystal Beck told reporters that the officers “immediately began taking fire” as soon as they reached the home around 9:30 p.m. and radioed for help before falling silent. The gunman, believed to live at the residence, opened fire without warning after a second person answered the door, according to investigators. Bystanders ultimately persuaded the shooter to drop his weapon, allowing officers to arrest him outside the house. He was booked into the Box Elder County Jail on aggravated-murder charges; his name has not yet been released. The Utah State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the inquiry into what officials called one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in the state in recent years.
