Jamila Islam has given birth to a son, Arham, her third child with Detective First Grade Didarul Islam, the off-duty New York City police officer killed during a mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan last month. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced the arrival, saying the department would "guard and uphold" Islam’s legacy for his family. Didarul Islam, 36, was working a security shift at 345 Park Avenue—home to the National Football League’s headquarters as well as offices for Blackstone and Rudin Management—when a gunman opened fire on 28 July. Islam and three others were killed; an office cleaner was wounded. Police say the attacker, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, used an AR-15-style rifle, fired 47 rounds and later died by suicide. Investigators are still examining a note in which Tamura claimed to suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
