The implementation of proto-danksharding blobs, specifically EIP-4844, on Arbitrum has significantly reduced transaction costs, marking a major advancement in Ethereum layer 2 (L2) scalability and efficiency. This development has led to an 80x reduction in gas fees for transactions and NFT minting, with a single transaction that previously cost 40 cents now only costing 0.5 cents. The actual gas usage has decreased by approximately 8x, working in conjunction with a 10x reduction in Arbitrum's base fees. This breakthrough has been celebrated across the Ethereum community, with Arbitrum now being highlighted as the most cost-effective L2 solution. The introduction of blobs has not only made transactions virtually free but also increased the capacity for transactions on Arbitrum One. Additionally, this technology has been activated for most major rollups, including four of the top five L2s, which are now utilizing blobs to maintain low base fees. The significant decrease in transaction costs is expected to further democratize access to blockchain technology, empowering developers and users alike. Art Blocks Engine powered the minting experience for ProhibitionArt, the first open generative art platform built on Arbitrum, showcasing the practical applications of this technology.
