Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, has disclosed his new role as an advisor to EigenLayer, an independent nonprofit organization. This advisorship includes a significant incentive in the form of EIGEN tokens, potentially worth millions of dollars over a three-year vesting period. Drake's disclosure also revealed that two other Ethereum Foundation staff members have formal relationships with EigenLayer, with one being an early investor in EigenLabs and the others serving as recent advisors to the EigenFoundation. The announcement has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest due to the substantial compensation involved. Drake emphasized transparency by publicly disclosing his involvement on April 17 via the Ethereum blockchain. Additionally, Dankrad Feist, another Ethereum Foundation researcher, has also taken an advisory role at EigenLayer, focusing on risks and decentralization.

Together with Justin and Dankrad, I have recently decided to become an advisor to Eigenlayer, albeit on vastly different terms -- I am taking this position in a red team for smart contract security, not representing the Ethereum Foundation, and with a focus on risks and storage…
