The Poloniex hacker, responsible for a major security breach in November 2023 where approximately $125 million was stolen from the cryptocurrency exchange's hot wallets, has recently transferred significant amounts of Ethereum (ETH) to Tornado Cash, a sanctioned coin mixer. The transactions included transfers of 100 ETH, 200 ETH, 600 ETH, 1,100 ETH, and 1,126 ETH, totaling 3.4 million USD, as part of what appears to be a money laundering effort. This marks the first time the hacker has used Tornado Cash for such transactions. The hacker still possesses about $182 million in crypto assets.
