Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has taken down the ‘Pride’ section of its website, a page that previously proclaimed the chain was “bringing the porch to Pride.” The link now redirects visitors to a more generic “Culture and Belonging” page. In a statement, the Lebanon, Tennessee-based company said the change was part of a broader refresh that added new material and removed “out-of-date content.” The move follows weeks of criticism from conservative commentators who faulted the 55-year-old restaurant chain for supporting LGBTQ initiatives and attempting a sleek rebrand that abandoned its homespun aesthetic. After sharp pushback, the company earlier this week scrapped a proposed text-only logo and returned to its traditional branding featuring the familiar “Old Timer” icon. Cracker Barrel’s handling of social-issues messaging echoes challenges facing other U.S. consumer brands that have drawn fire for diversity and inclusion campaigns. The company, which operates about 660 restaurants in 45 states, did not say whether it plans further digital or marketing changes tied to the controversy.
