Former First Lady Michelle Obama used the latest episode of her podcast, “IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson,” to reflect on aging and the challenges she believes women still face in the United States. Obama said she feels “completely free” for the first time since leaving the White House and urged women to view later life as a period of expanded opportunity, noting that “we aren’t parenting our kids anymore — they’re parenting us.” Joined by actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Obama argued that social expectations continue to impose “land mines and barriers and don’ts and limitations” on women. Louis-Dreyfus agreed, recalling being labeled a “female doctor” rather than simply a doctor. The pair called on men, particularly fathers of daughters, to recognize these constraints and help dismantle them.
