Hemi, a new modular Layer-2 blockchain network developed by Bitcoin pioneer Jeff Garzik and VeriBlock co-founder Maxwell Sanchez, has been launched at Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville on July 25. The network, named Hemi, integrates Bitcoin and Ethereum into a unified supernetwork, offering EVM smart contract execution secured by the Bitcoin network. This new development aims to pave the way for Bitcoin-based DeFi applications. Hemi Labs has also unveiled the testnet for the Hemi Network, which features a 'Proof-of-Proof' consensus mechanism designed to enhance Bitcoin's security and interoperability with Ethereum.
