Business travel, which had significantly declined during the pandemic and was slow to recover due to cost concerns, is now showing signs of resurgence. According to Anna Marrs, Group President of Global Commercial Services at American Express ($AXP), spending by road warriors, consultants, and investment bankers has returned to or exceeded 2019 levels. However, technology companies have been more conservative with their travel and entertainment expenditures. Marrs also highlighted that American Express has a 47% share of U.S. small business spending, providing insights into business spending trends. Additionally, American Express has launched a checking account and scaled up a digital line of credit product through the acquisition of fintech company Kabbage in 2022. Despite advancements, 33% of business payments are still made by paper checks, down from 67% previously.
