
A year after its public debut, ChatGPT's growth in user numbers has stagnated at ~0 growth, with a significant portion of users exploring other specialized platforms for various applications such as image generation, writing, coding, research, and more, known as verticalized players. Despite this, generative AI, including ChatGPT, is increasingly becoming a tool of choice for tech employees, including engineers. Surveys reveal that a majority of Americans have yet to use ChatGPT, with 77% reporting they have never used it and 34% stating they are unaware of it. However, usage among U.S. adults is on the rise, with 23% having used ChatGPT, up from 18% in July 2023, marking an 8-point increase. Furthermore, nearly a third of employed Americans under 30 have utilized ChatGPT for work-related tasks, with the overall percentage of employed Americans using ChatGPT for work jumping from 8% in March 2023 to 20% in February 2024.
