The charges are related to a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme at a rehabilitation clinic. Following her arrest, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspended Pacheco through an executive order. The arrest has raised concerns about a potential vacancy on the Hialeah council, but the mayor has expressed opposition to holding a special election to fill the position. An ex-doctor at Pacheco’s clinic was previously convicted of similar healthcare fraud.
