The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported a 0.5% increase in the global food price index in June 2025, reaching an average of 128 points. This rise was primarily driven by higher prices for meat, vegetable oils, and dairy products. Conversely, cereal prices declined by 1.5% during the same period, with corn prices falling for the second consecutive month due to favorable crop conditions in the United States. Additionally, consumer prices rose by 1.8% in June, with food and drink prices increasing at more than twice the rate of general inflation. Notably, butter prices surged nearly 30%, and bread prices increased by approximately six cents per loaf.
