Goldman Sachs has raised its year-end target for the S&P 500 to 5600, marking the third upward revision this year. The adjustment, a 3% increase from the current level, is based on stronger-than-expected earnings per share (EPS) growth and an increased fair value price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, which has been adjusted from 19.5x to 20.4x. Goldman has also outlined several scenarios for the S&P 500's performance: a 'catch up' scenario where the index could reach 5900 (+9% from today), a 'catch-down' scenario where it could fall to 4700 (-13%), and a continued mega-cap exceptionalism scenario that could lift the index to 6300.
