The first publicly announced effort by the private sector to thwart unauthorized Affordable Care Act (ACA) enrollment schemes has been launched. HealthSherpa, along with insurers, is aiming to curb these unauthorized enrollments. Millions of people, or their brokers, have reported incorrect financial information to qualify for large ACA tax credits. Rogue health insurance agents have been switching people into different ACA plans without their knowledge, often using misleading social media ads that falsely promise money for groceries. Insurance call centers have also been accused of using misleading advertising to sign people up for ACA plans or switch their existing coverage.
