The Japanese yen weakened significantly against the dollar and euro following the Bank of Japan's decision to end negative rates. The dollar/yen pair rose to 150.630, marking the biggest one-day gain since early February. Meanwhile, the euro surged to its highest level against the yen since 2008, reaching 164.33. Speculation arose that the BoJ would maintain accommodative monetary policy despite the rate hike.
