Las Vegas tourism and gaming sectors experienced continued declines through May 2025, with visitation falling for the fifth consecutive month. Passenger traffic at Harry Reid International Airport dropped 4% year-over-year to just under 5 million in May, including an 8.7% decrease in international arrivals. For the first five months of 2025, airport passenger volume was down nearly 3.8%. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported a 6.5% decrease in visitors compared to May 2024, citing economic uncertainty, inflation, tariffs, and tensions with Canada as contributing factors. Hotel occupancy rates and room prices also declined during this period. Nevada gaming revenue fell 2.2% statewide in May, with the Las Vegas Strip experiencing a 3.8% drop and downtown casinos down 11.4%. The locals market remained flat, while Reno saw a 3% decrease and Sparks an 11.8% increase. The sustained downturn has impacted local businesses, with layoffs among casino dealers and reduced orders at establishments like Naked City Pizza. Additionally, Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino in Primm announced it will close its day-to-day operations, shifting activities to Primm Valley Resort, marking the third casino closure in South Las Vegas since 2020. The declines reflect a broader trend of reduced tourism and spending in the Las Vegas area amid ongoing economic challenges.
