NRG Energy Inc. has announced a significant $12 billion acquisition of a natural gas generation portfolio from LS Power Equity Advisors. The deal, which includes 18 natural gas-fired facilities totaling approximately 13 gigawatts, is aimed at doubling NRG's generation capacity and expanding its footprint in the Northeast and Texas. The acquisition is part of NRG's strategy to capitalize on the increasing U.S. electricity demand, driven by the growth of artificial intelligence and data centers. CEO Larry Coben highlighted the company's position at the forefront of a power demand supercycle, emphasizing the importance of reliable energy solutions. Analysts from Goldman Sachs project a 2.4% annual rise in U.S. electrical power demand through the end of the decade, with AI-related demand accounting for about two-thirds of the incremental power demand. By 2035, data centers are expected to account for 8.6% of all U.S. electricity demand, up from 3.5% today. CytomX Therapeutics Inc. reported positive interim data from a Phase 1 dose escalation study of its EpCAM-targeting antibody drug conjugate, CX-2051, in patients with advanced colorectal cancer. The study showed a 28% confirmed response rate overall and a 43% response rate at the 10 mg/kg dose. The patients involved were third-line or later, with 64% having liver metastases and KRAS-mutated disease, and nearly all were microsatellite-stable. Notably, the trial reported no instances of pancreatitis, with the most severe adverse events being grade 3, including diarrhea and acute kidney injury, managed with loperamide prophylaxis. CytomX plans to expand the three dose cohorts to 20 patients each. Following the positive data, CytomX announced the pricing of a $100 million underwritten offering of common stock, indicating strong investor confidence in the company's clinical progress and future prospects.
