Skechers USA has filed a lawsuit against L.L. Bean this week, accusing the outdoor apparel company of illegally copying its patented shoe designs. The lawsuit alleges that L.L. Bean's Freeport casual shoes infringe on two of Skechers' patented designs for 'heel cups' that surround the back of the foot. Skechers claims that the copied designs have sold in the millions and is seeking unspecified damages, including triple damages for any willful infringement.
