Sony Interactive Entertainment said Wednesday it will raise the recommended retail prices of all PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States by $50, effective 21 August. The company cited a “challenging economic environment,” language that industry observers link to higher component and logistics costs stemming from recent U.S. import tariffs. Under the new pricing, the disc-based PlayStation 5 will cost $549.99, the PS5 Digital Edition $499.99 and the higher-spec PS5 Pro $749.99. Sony said accessory pricing is unchanged and that it has no current plans to adjust console prices in other markets. The increase makes Sony the latest console maker to pass rising costs on to U.S. consumers after Microsoft and Nintendo announced similar hikes earlier this year. Sony previously lifted PS5 prices by as much as 25% in Europe and Australia in April, and has projected sales of 15 million PlayStation consoles in the fiscal year ending March 2026, down from 18.5 million sold in the prior 12-month period.
