The Attorney General for Washington, D.C., Brian Schwalb, has filed a lawsuit against StubHub, accusing the ticket resale platform of deceptive pricing practices. The lawsuit alleges that StubHub uses 'drip pricing' tactics, where the full cost of tickets, including mandatory fees, is hidden until the final stages of the checkout process. This practice has reportedly led to consumers in the district being charged an additional $118 million in hidden fees since 2015. StubHub has sold over 5.5 million tickets to consumers in the district during this period. The lawsuit claims that StubHub's pricing strategy violates the district's Consumer Protection Procedures Act by advertising deceptively low prices and then increasing costs with extra fees. Schwalb asserts that these practices are manipulative and unfair, aiming to boost profits at the expense of consumers. The lawsuit is part of a broader crackdown on 'junk fees' in the industry.
