In Cyprus, a 45-year-old former insurance agent has been detained for seven days following allegations of defrauding an insurance company of over €700,000. The suspect is accused of creating fraudulent insurance policies, primarily targeting individuals from third countries residing in Cyprus, between 2017 and 2023. The fraud involved issuing fake cheques and receipts on behalf of the insurance company, affecting areas such as Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Nicosia. In a separate incident, a Cypriot company in Limassol fell victim to an online scam, losing goods worth over $81,000. The scam involved a fraudulent email from someone posing as a representative of a European company, leading to the shipment of goods without payment.
