Kraken, the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, has obtained a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license from the Central Bank of Ireland. This regulatory approval enables Kraken to offer compliant digital asset services across all 30 member states of the European Economic Area (EEA). The MiCA license is part of the European Union's 2024 regulatory framework for digital assets, aimed at standardizing crypto operations within the bloc. Kraken's acquisition of the license marks a key milestone in its European expansion strategy. Other major crypto exchanges, including Coinbase, OKX, Crypto.com, and Bybit, have also announced securing MiCA licenses in 2025, with Gemini reportedly progressing toward approval in Malta.
