MoonPay, BitStaete, ZBD, and Hidden Road have secured Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) licenses from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). These licenses, granted under the European Union's new regulatory framework, allow the companies to operate across all 27 EU member states. MiCA, which officially came into effect on December 30, 2024, establishes a unified set of rules for crypto businesses in the EU. The regulation requires firms to obtain a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from one member state to operate across the bloc. A Dutch AFM filing from December 30 confirmed the issuance of these licenses. Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO of MoonPay, described MiCA as a pivotal moment for the European digital asset industry. The framework aims to streamline operations for licensed companies while imposing stricter compliance requirements, such as those for stablecoin issuers.
