Former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater said Miami Northwestern Senior High School has suspended him from his role as head football coach while the school reviews allegations that he provided impermissible benefits to players. Bridgewater disclosed the action in a social-media post on 14 July and insisted he will remain with the program in some capacity. Bridgewater had publicly detailed that he used personal funds to cover weekly Uber rides for players ($700), physical-therapy and recovery services ($1,300), pre-game meals ($2,200), field maintenance ($300) and other costs, including $14,000 for a four-night training camp and $9,500 for team apparel. He estimates the outlay exceeded $200,000. The payments were part of a fundraising appeal he said was self-reported to school officials. The Florida High School Athletic Association confirmed it forwarded an allegation of amateurism violations to Miami Northwestern and is collecting information but has not opened a formal investigation or imposed sanctions. FHSAA rules bar school employees or representatives from giving athletes financial inducements. Bridgewater, 32, guided his alma mater to the Florida Class 3A state title in 2024, months after concluding a ten-year NFL career that included a Pro Bowl season with the Minnesota Vikings. He wrote that the suspension originated with school administrators, not the FHSAA, and that he would volunteer from the stands if necessary until the matter is resolved.
