A series of recent polls indicate that a majority of French citizens oppose the proposal by Prime Minister François Bayrou to eliminate two public holidays as part of the 2026 budget plan. According to an Elabe survey commissioned by BFMTV, approximately 75% of respondents are against the removal of these holidays. Opposition spans across the political spectrum, with support for the measure varying by party affiliation: 41% among Les Républicains (LR), 37% for Ensemble, 27% for Les Écologistes, 21% for the Socialist Party (PS), 18% for Rassemblement National (RN), 15% for La France Insoumise (LFI), and 12% for Reconquête. Additional polls from LCI and L'Important report similar disapproval rates of 77% and 70%, respectively. The proposal aims to boost economic growth but has been broadly rejected by the French public, including residents of Paris.
