The French prime minister’s office said François Bayrou will hold a press conference on Monday, 25 August, at 4 p.m. in Paris to outline the government’s priorities for the new political term, with the 2026 budget topping the agenda. Bayrou is under growing pressure after his mid-July draft framework projected roughly €44 billion in spending cuts next year. Left-wing lawmakers have signalled plans to introduce a motion of censure, while trade unions are calling for a nationwide day of protest on 10 September. The far-right National Rally also intends to challenge the government’s plans. Party vice-president Edwige Diaz said the group will present a “counter-budget” ahead of the parliamentary debate, underscoring the breadth of opposition Bayrou faces as he seeks to push the 2026 fiscal package through the National Assembly.
