The German supermarket chain Lidl has been ordered to pay €43 million to French rival Intermarché following a ruling by an appeals court that found Lidl guilty of deceptive commercial practices. The court determined that Lidl's promotional advertisements, which offered special prices on products, were misleading because the advertised products were not available in all Lidl stores. Intermarché filed the lawsuit against Lidl, accusing the company of unfair competition due to these misleading promotions. Lidl has announced plans to appeal the decision by taking the case to the Court of Cassation.
