French telecommunications company Iliad is shifting its strategic focus toward domestic mergers and acquisitions, specifically exploring the potential consolidation of SFR in France. The company has moved away from previous talks with Telecom Italia, resulting in a sharp decline in Telecom Italia's shares—the largest drop in nearly 18 months. Iliad reportedly engaged in preliminary discussions in June regarding the possible acquisition of Altice France, the parent company of SFR. This potential deal could lead to millions of SFR subscribers transitioning to Free, Iliad's mobile brand. Iliad also reported strong financial results for the first half of the year in both France and Europe. Additionally, the company is considering future projects such as the introduction of eSIM technology on the Apple Watch and offering mobile plans without a traditional broadband box.
