La France insoumise has refused to accredit Le Monde reporter Olivier Pérou for its summer university taking place 21–24 August in Valence (Drôme). Pérou co-authored “La Meute”, a May 2025 investigation portraying the movement founded by Jean-Luc Mélenchon as tightly controlled and prone to intimidation. Le Monde’s editor, Jérôme Fenoglio, denounced the decision as “a clear obstacle to press freedom”. LFI defended its stance, alleging that the book breached journalistic ethics by failing to respect the right of reply and by including personal details about party members. Speaking on LCI, party MEP Manon Aubry said any other Le Monde journalist could attend, but maintained that Pérou had “not respected the rules of contradictory debate”. The move has triggered broad condemnation. Nearly 30 Societies of Journalists from French media released a joint statement calling the exclusion “a grave attack on the right to inform”, and the daily Libération pulled its own correspondent from the event in protest. Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure added that “press freedom is non-negotiable”. Critics warned the episode sets a worrying precedent for political access as the new parliamentary session approaches.
