French culinary figure Mercotte, 82, is stepping down as co-judge of M6’s baking competition “Le Meilleur Pâtissier” after 14 seasons. She confirmed the decision in an interview published on 19 August, saying she wished to quit “par décence” given her age. Mercotte—born Jacqueline Mercorelli—joined the programme at its launch in 2012 and became a staple alongside chef Cyril Lignac. She informed Lignac and producers of her intention last December, and her final episodes were filmed in June for a broadcast slated for this autumn. Lignac said he “respects” the move and expects the show’s format to be reworked for season 15, although he does not plan to leave. Mercotte intends to remain active in culinary festivals and international versions of the franchise rather than retire fully.
